Relativamente alla violenza sociale (povertà, degrado, traumi da incidenti stradali, domestici) è necessario sottolineare che in Italia circa il 16% dei bambini vive al di sotto della soglia nazionale della povertà , sono circa quindi 1.500.000 bambini italiani che, senza alcuna colpa o responsabilità o possibilità di attivarsi autonomamente per migliorare la propria condizione economica, vivono in gravi condizioni di disagio sociale, psicologico, culturale.
La prima causa di morte per gli adolescenti risultano essere gli incidenti stradali e la seconda causa di morte i suicidi , infine sono migliaia i bambini e gli adolescenti che ogni anno subiscono danni permanenti a causa di incidenti domestici e stradali.
La violenza sessuale, psicologica e fisica è invece in gran parte sommersa, non percepita cioè dalla comunità perché denunciata solo nell’1% dei casi.
Vi sono numerosi studi sulla diffusione del fenomeno della violenza sessuale subita in età infantile che sono stati compiuti attraverso ricerche scientifiche di carattere retrospettivo, condotte cioè mediante l’intervista o la somministrazione di questionari anonimi compilati da una popolazione adulta o adolescente.

Dalle ricerche citate risulta ancora che il 3% della popolazione afferma di avere subito, in età infantile, violenze fisiche e l’11% violenze psicologiche. .
Quale che sia l’esatta entità del fenomeno è innegabile che la violenza (sessuale, fisica, psicologica) sommersa, in Italia, come in tutti gli altri paesi industrializzati, è un fenomeno gravissimo e diffuso che andrebbe urgentemente monitorato; i dati di queste ricerche were released on numerous occasions, even and especially by members of the Movement for children, but always fell amid general indifference.
